You will find aromatherapy in most spas. The use of scented oils and candles are not only for a pleasant scent, but for the added benefits of those scents for your mind, body and spirit. Aromatherapy is considered a form of alternative medicine that uses plant materials and compounds. Aromatherapy began as a form of treatment or prevention of disease by use of essential oils. The scents and uses for the oils varies based on what you are trying to achieve. These goals range from hair loss prevention, to pain and anxiety reduction to enhancement of energy and short-term memory.
There are two ways aromatherapy can be introduced into a spa session. Aerial diffusion used as an environmental fragrance and disinfectant, or topically when oils are used for massages or baths and applied to skin. Oils such as tea tree, lavender and chamomile most commonly used, however there are a vast amount of essential oils available such as rose absolute, and almond.
My absolute favorite essential oil is lavender. I even have a pillow spray that helps soothes me into a fragrant slumber.
