So you took the first step in your career as a cosmetologist. Now it’s time to get out there and show the world what you are made of. This can be a difficult task for a recent grad of any career path. Don’t be discouraged! These are a few tips that are sure to boost your clientele.
Create a digital portfolio. While you are in beauty school, take pictures of everything. You don’t have to go crazy and put out ads for models. Use your friends. Always have your camera ready, and snap away. Post these on your Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram to gain exposure. You can even add these links to your own, personal business cards. Check out VistaPrint.com, where you can get 250 completely customizable business cards for only $10!
Volunteer your services. Look out for pageants, local theater and nonprofit events. Not only will you be working on potential clients, but you will be credited for your work and be seen by lots of people. It can be a great networking tool. Another idea is to partner up with other cosmetologists and/or local photographers to bring very big job opportunities in the future. It’s a win-win. They get beautified models, and you get professional looking portfolio images and get credited!
Remember to be creative! You are your own PR representative. Be proud of your work and show it off!
