Hair Stylist Secret Weapon: The Hair Donut

Summer is here and it is hot! Despite the steamy temperatures, long lush hair is always in style, but when the barometer rises, so do the styles. Hair buns are one of the most versatile hair styles around since you can wear it sleek and smooth or bohemian style.

Whatever your desired look may be, sometimes due to hair length and texture, buns just don’t work out. What hairstylists may not want you to know is that there is a simple solution to all bun-woes — the hair donut.

At first glance, this Brillo-pad with a whole in the middle may not seem like the ultimate tool in creating a bun. But follow these steps to your ultimate summer bun and you’ll be loving this lightweight spongy hair tool in no time:

What You Will Need

Hair Donut
Ballpoint Bobby Pins (I like to use the wide-toothed ones)
Hair tie
Hair Spray/ Styling Product

What To Do

Start by creating a ponytail your desired location. (If you are a curly girl like me, start with wet hair to ensure sleekness.)

Pull the ponytail through the middle of the donut. You should look like you have a massive spongy scrunchie on.

Depending on the overall look you’re trying to achieve, grab small sections of hair and fold over the donut, pinning down.

Longer hair will need to be tucked in and secured with another bobby pin.

Do this around the bun until all the hair has been pinned down.

Finish up with a touch of hair spray and…. voila… hair bun!
