Celebs love to expand their business, which is why many of them invest in music, clothing lines, even energy drinks! The latest star expansion — one that packs a great punch of purpose — comes from one of my favorite celebrities. Beyonce and her mom Tina Knowles recently joined with Phoenix House to create The Beyonce Cosmetology Center.
The Phoenix House is a nonprofit recovery center for drug and alcoholic addiction, and the cosmetology center is in DUMBO area of Brooklyn, NY located in the Phoenix House Career Academy. This Center is for adult students who are in treatment.
L’oreal has donated all the products for this seven-month training program, during which students will be taught practical skills needed to meet NYS cosmetology licensure exam requirements. In addition to practical and theory skills, they will also learn salon computer software and customer service skills.
“I felt like they needed something that was geared toward women — something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House,” said Beyonce. Personally, Beyonce and her mom have donated $100,000 year to the center since its opening in March 2010.
